Is Patrick Mahomes still underrated?!
He is one of the most talented quarterbacks in the league, while others believe that he is overrated and has been hyped up due to his flashy style of play.
I believe that Patrick Mahomes is almost underrated. I was watching Patrick Mahomes during the AFC championship game and I said I think he’s better than we thought he was. I know that's crazy.
He did a phenomenal job of having the success that he had early in his career. Against the Bengals though, he not only didn't have to play from the pocket, but he couldn't rely on all of those crazy plays that we’ve seen him do, even though he made a couple.
Then let's talk about his will to win. Other people at some point got to play through some adversity, at some point the chips will be stacked against them, and at some point, they are going to have to deliver in those moments. Mahomes delivered. I go back to playing from the pocket. We all knew against the Bengals he would be limited with his health. However, he was still a dominant passer from the pocket, and the most important thing, he didn't throw the ball to the other team and that was the difference in the game.
We talk about his improv, moving around the pocket, and throwing no lookers but this makes his continued success get overlooked. Him being in five AFC Championships, and now about to go to his third super bowl gets lost in all of that. What he did down three receivers and Travis Kelce, because the Bengals committed to shutting him down, was he found another receiver and when a play needed to be made, he showed the guts to say forget this ankle, I gotta go win this game for my team. He’s better than we thought he was.
Whether he is truly underrated or not is a matter of personal opinion, but there is no denying that he is one of the most talented and exciting players in the league today. Let's take a look at what he’s done.
Would Mahomes be a Hall of Famer is he retired right now?
Patrick Mahomes has already achieved more in his young career than many NFL players can only dream of. With a Super Bowl MVP award, a Super Bowl championship, and multiple Pro Bowl and All-Pro selections, it's not surprising that some people believe he could retire right now and still make it into the Hall of Fame as a first-ballot inductee.
Mahomes has been a dominant force in the NFL since his debut in 2017. In just his first full season as a starter, he led the Chiefs to the AFC Championship game and was awarded the league MVP. The following year, he led the Chiefs to their first Super Bowl victory in 50 years and was named Super Bowl MVP. In 2023 he won another MVP and is going back to his third super bowl. He has continued his success in the league, solidifying his position as the best quarterback in the game today.
One of the most impressive things about Mahomes is his arm strength. He can make throws that other quarterbacks simply cannot make, and he consistently puts the ball exactly where it needs to be. This type of playmaking ability is rare in the NFL, and it is one of the reasons why Mahomes is so special.
To me, this is a non-argument. The guy throws for roughly 5,000 yards each year and has led the Chiefs to the AFC title game every season he has been the starting quarterback. Already been three visits to the Super Bowl! We are watching the finest quarterback in history, and he is only in his fifth full season.
This man is everything a franchise player should be, and if his family wasn't on social media, I believe he would be the most popular athlete of all time. I genuinely feel he outperforms every NFL quarterback in terms of talent. It would be incredible if he won the Super Bowl. Immediate induction into the Hall of Fame.
It's not a matter of if Patrick Mahomes will make it into the Hall of Fame, but when. With his impressive resume and continued success, he will likely be a first-ballot inductee as soon as he becomes eligible. Whether he decides to retire right now or continue playing for many more years, his legacy as one of the greatest quarterbacks in NFL history is already secured.
